Fortis was founded in 1912 and by 1926 had presented to the world the first mass produced automatic wristwatch marketed under its inventors name Harwood. By 1928 Rolex developed Harwood's idea from the hammer winding mechanism to the "Rotor" a patented new winding mechanism. By 1932 the Fortis Watches appeared on dials as a brand name, this watch followed by the introduction of water resistant models and chronographs, and in 1954 introduced watches with an alarm. Fortis have continued to be pioneers in watch design and in 1994 Fortis watches travelled into space aboard the MIR station. Fortis also have strong links to professional pilots and worldwide Fortis Pilot and Fortis Flieger watches are worn by different squadrons and aerobatic teams. Since then Fortis produce the official Cosmonauts models which bear the logos of the Russian space authorities. Aspens Jewellers have been hand selected to be an official agent for Fortis watches UK. |
